Brown County Jail Roster Reality
The official Brown County jail page found in the research does not publish a separate county-hosted roster page. That does not leave searchers without official options. The sheriff's useful-links page sends inmate-locator users to VINELink and victim-notification users to Indiana SAVIN. The statewide INjail Public Portal includes Brown County in its participating county list, and official API metadata identified Brown as FIPS 18013, code 07.
That makes the Brown County inmate records workflow a fallback chain rather than a single roster link. INjail is the practical county-jail search channel. VINELink and SAVIN support custody status and notifications. The Brown County Sheriff's Department remains the local contact when a search is unclear, when the person was just booked, or when the record needed is not online. Court records through MyCase become important after formal charges are filed.
Use the system that matches the custody stage. Brown County Jail records cover pretrial detainees, local sentences, court-order holds, and recent jail custody. The Indiana Department of Correction locator covers sentenced state prisoners after transfer. The Federal Bureau of Prisons and ICE locators cover different federal and immigration custody systems, not ordinary Brown County jail bookings.
Use Brown County Inmate Search
Start with as much identifying information as possible. A last name may be enough for an uncommon name, but a first name, birth date, county filter, or booking date range can help when the name is common or the spelling is uncertain. If the person may already be released, include the released-between filter or check the court record for the filed case.
- Open the INjail Public Portal and select the Search tab or county search path.
- Enter the person's last name and any other reliable name or date details.
- Select Brown in the county field to avoid statewide results that belong to other counties.
- Open the detail view when a result appears and compare booking dates, release dates, holds, and cases.
- If no result appears, check VINELink/SAVIN, call the sheriff's main number, or search MyCase for filed court charges.
The county's own useful-links page also matters because it links custody tools, public-records forms, InmateSales, and related sheriff resources. If the online path fails, the official local fallback is the Brown County Sheriff's Department at 55 State Road 46 E in Nashville, phone 812-988-6655.
Brown County Roster Search Fields
INjail gives a real search form rather than a simple name box. The app bundle exposed the following fields and result behavior. Live detail calls required a token during research, so current Brown County inmate profile samples were not captured.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | Unspecified | Maximum length 50; app bundle indicated alpha-only entry. |
| First Name | Text | Unspecified | Useful for common surnames. |
| Birth Date | Date picker | No | Uses m/d/yyyy placeholder. |
| County | Dropdown | No | Select Brown for Brown County jail custody. |
| Booked Between | Date range | No | Presets include today, last 7 days, last 30 days, this month, and last month. |
| Released Between | Date range | No | Presets include last 7 days and last 30 days. |
| Search / Clear | Buttons | n/a | Submit the search or reset the form. |
Brown County Inmate Profile Fields
INjail result columns can show county, name, age, race, sex, booked date, released date, and a view link. The detail modal fields found in the official app bundle go deeper. These fields are useful when comparing a jail record with a court case, but a field listed by the portal may be blank, unavailable, or withheld for a specific person.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Public person name on the result and detail record. |
| INjail ID | Portal identifier tied to the custody result. |
| Race, ethnicity, skin tone, sex, age | Demographic descriptors if populated by the jail data source. |
| Eye color, hair color, height, weight | Physical description fields when available. |
| County and booking number | County connected to the custody record and jail booking identifier. |
| Booked On, Arrest Date, Released On | Booking, arrest, and release timing. Released On may be blank or placeholder text if no release is recorded. |
| Arresting agency and officer | Agency/officer fields exposed in the portal bundle. |
| Holds and cases | Separate sections for other custody flags and related cases. |
| Mugshot | A mugshot component exists, but Brown County photo display was not verified. |
Brown County Custody Channels
Brown County inmate records can be split by need. A family member trying to confirm custody needs a current custody channel. A victim who wants notice of release needs a notification channel. A person looking for a booking record that is not online needs the sheriff's public-records path. A person checking filed charges needs MyCase and the Brown County Clerk.
| Lookup Need | Primary Channel | Fallback |
|---|---|---|
| Current Brown County jail custody | INjail Public Portal and VINELink | Sheriff main phone or in-person sheriff office |
| Custody notifications | Indiana SAVIN / VINELink | VINELink mobile app |
| Booking record not online | Sheriff public-records request form/page | Sheriff phone, 812-988-6655 |
| Filed charges after arrest | Indiana MyCase | Brown County Clerk or Brown Circuit Court |
| Sentenced Indiana prisoner | IDOC incarcerated locator | IDOC records request route |
| Federal or ICE custody | BOP locator or ICE locator | Federal court, ICE ERO, or detention facility contact |
County State Federal Inmate Records
The Brown County Jail is the right system for local arrests, pretrial detention, local sentences, and Brown County court-order holds. The IDOC incarcerated locator is the right system for a person sentenced to Indiana prison after a Brown County case. Its search page supports last name, first name, and DOC number. A sample IDOC profile can show DOC number, full name fields, date of birth, gender, race, facility or location, sentence date, offense description, sentence term, conviction type, Indiana citation code, cause number, county of conviction, and projected release date.
Federal and immigration searches use still different tools. The Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to the present, usually after commitment. The ICE Online Detainee Locator is for ICE custody and can be searched by biographical information or A-number. The U.S. Marshals Service handles many federal pretrial detainees but no public USMS inmate locator was found in the research.
Note: A missing Brown County jail result may mean release, transfer, spelling variation, state prison custody, federal custody, or a non-public online detail.
Brown County Jail Facility Records
The local jail facility for Brown County inmate records is the Brown County Jail, operated by the Brown County Sheriff's Department. The jail and sheriff use the same public address at 55 State Road 46 East, Nashville, IN 47448. The sheriff page lists Sheriff Brad Stogsdill, phone 812-988-6655, fax 812-988-8859, and administrative hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The jail page names Andy Reed as Jail Commander.

Brown County Booking Records
Brown County does not publish a detailed booking-process page, so booking records should be read through the jail, court, and public-records sources together. A typical Brown County arrest moves from arrest by the sheriff, Nashville Police Department, Indiana State Police, DNR law enforcement, or another agency to the Brown County Jail for intake. The jail record may then show identifying information, custody reason, booking or arrest date, release date, bond, holds, and related cases.
Indiana APRA is important because IC 5-14-3-5 requires disclosure of certain arrest and jail or lock-up information. That does not mean every police report is public. Investigatory records may be treated differently under IC 5-14-3-4. For a cleaner request, ask for booking or jail intake information, arrest/summons information required by IC 5-14-3-5, or a booking photo if maintained and releasable.
Brown Circuit Court local rules add pretrial timing. Arrested people complete a Pretrial Services Intake Information Form. People not released by recognizance or bond must be assessed within 48 hours, excluding weekends and court holidays, and a hearing must occur no later than 10 days after arrest unless exigent circumstances prevent it.
Brown County Jail Visit Rules
Brown County publishes a detailed visitation schedule. Visitors must show a non-expired state-issued ID, sign in, and be in the sheriff's office lobby before visiting hours start. A visitor under 18 must be with a parent or legal guardian over 18. If a visitor leaves the visitation area, re-entry is not allowed. Each inmate gets one visit per week, with up to four visitors at a time.
